How To Barcode Your Products For Australian Retailers
Organising how to barcode your products in seven easy steps
Step 1: Determine where you are selling your products to IE: general retail stores, supermarket, convenience stores, health food stores, hardware stores, chemists, pet stores, book stores, newsagent, pharmacy, schools, warehouse
Step 2: Work out what packaging material you are going to print your barcode on to. Some examples are barcode labels, cardboard, plastic, bottle.
Step 3: Order A Barcode number for each individual product you have for sale. To succesfully track your stock taking you must use a individual barcode for every item. Size, Weight, Color, Volume difference reflect a difference. Every item should have a unique barcode number unless the items are shrink wrapped together and sold as 1 item.
Step 4: Measure your artwork or design to ensure you can order the largest barcode image to fit within your design.
Step 5: Provide details on what you intend printing on to: Materials like plastic, paper, cardboard all need to custom made to ensure minimal quality loss when printed.
Step 6: Advise of the file format so you can open the custom made digital barcode image. Popular formats ordered are JPG, EPS, PDF, Illustrator, WMF Formats compatible with microsoft office, Corel Draw, Transparencies
Step 7: Advise if you are using a IBM PC or Apple Mac. The file format is not really different but email programs can change the format of the file attachment making it difficult for the end user to open. We prefer to know in advance to avoid this inconvenience.
